Life Update - What I've been up to so far this year.

Okay, so I know it's not a Monday... my bad.
A visit from Dan on Sunday evening and then watching the Super Bowl with him, did mean that I forgot to write this post so it was ready for Monday morning. I hope you guys don't mind this being a day late!
For a change on my blog, I thought I would give you a little lifestyle post and share with you what's been happening in my life. You guys only get to see a small portion of my personality through my posts, so I thought it would be pretty awesome to share a little bit more.

  • In January, I properly started using Instagram... what is it about that little social media app that compels you to take selfies all the time?! I never usually take selfies, but since Instagram, I just can't help it! (by the way my Instagram is here just in case you fancy following!)
  • Also in January, I got another 3 piercings and confirmed my slight addiction to them. This all started last year in October when I got my nose pierced. I loved it so much that in January I thought, 'hey, why not get my second lobe piercings done' then just before I went to the piercing parlour I decided 'I'm going to get my right Helix pierced' (upper cartilage) and so I walked out with 3 new piercings and the desire to get more. Don't ask me why, but I just love them and I love the way they look. I'm getting my Tragus pierced next and then the left Helix.
  • I returned back to University on the 6th of January, after what seemed like the worlds shortest Christmas holiday. However, I returned with a new perspective. After concluding that Psychology, (much to my own surprise) really wasn't the course for me, I discovered that it's actually the English Literature part of my Combined Hons that I really enjoy.
  • After discovering that English Literature was the course I wanted to fully pursue, I have been making arrangements to switch over to Single Hons English Literature for the Second Year. Needless to say, I am SO excited! I just want to get on with it now. Especially the module on The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. I love myself abit of Medieval English.
  • Throughout January, I've been trying to eat healthily (not for weight loss, it's to combat tiredness from eating junk food). Which anyone that knows me in the real world will know is not an easy thing. I am a crisp addict. I love crisps. Mainly the hand cooked ones (kettle chips... NOM). Trying to actually eat healthy food without binge eating at midnight is a challenge (my biggest problem since being at uni!). To make it easier, I have been basically chucking salad on every meal possible. I love salad and thankfully eating it isn't much of a chore. My favourite has been a Peri Peri Chicken Salad with Mozzarella and Cashew Nuts, very tasty.  That being said I do still treat myself to a couple of bags of hand cooked crisps a week, I just try not to eat them all in one go at 12am!
  • One thing that has been concerning me throughout the month, is the obsession girls my age have with their appearance. This may seem hypocritical of me, as a beauty blogger, I write posts twice a week on products that sole purpose is to help make you look better. However, what bothers me is how girls, that are quite frankly a perfectly acceptable size (I'm talking size 10-12) are worrying that their not toned enough or slim enough. I just don't get it?? As a very average and normal size 12-14 (and in no way ashamed of it!) the pressure that I feel as a female student to conform and go to the gym each day and go for no-carb diets is astonishing and certainly something that I wasn't expecting from my university experience!
  • Going with this theme of social pressure, another realisation struck me this month. It's ok to be a student and to not drink. This is one that's been bothering me for quite awhile. I am a self-confessed bore. I love a cozy night in with a face mask, a film and a mocha. To me there is nothing worse than the idea of going out to a club, drinking foul liquids, listening to bad music, having no stimulating conversation and going home at 3am. Only to have to wake up 7 hours later for a lecture, with a steaming hangover and about £40 less in my pocket. As a first year student, however, this is expected. Do you know what, screw the expectations! I am almost half way through my second term and I have not once been out to a club and do you know what, I don't feel like I've missed out or had any less of a 'University experience'. I've had the opportunities, I'm frequently asked by peers. But I just don't want to. To me alcohol is overrated. I like a glass of cold white wine at home with dinner or in the summer, but in terms of "lets go out and get mortal" it just doesn't interest me. It does interest me though, on how people react to it when I tell them "oh, I don't drink" it's as if I'm another species! I really hope that one day binge drinking isn't as appealing to the younger generations. It's dangerous, damaging, expensive and just another added pressure that I think we could all do without. However, that being said, if you like going out and drinking and going to clubs, great,  but please, just be wary that not everyone wants to drink, so don't put pressure on them, it sucks.
  • Back onto lighter ground, (that got abit serious then didn't it?) January was the month of planning. After being together for 6 years in April, Dan and I have finally decided to celebrate our Anniversary for once. We're hoping to go to London. The plan so far is to find somewhere to eat, stay in a swanky Hotel in the city (still undecided on where!) then the next day go shopping, hello beauty hauls! I feel very lucky to have a Boyfriend that loves shopping and eating as much as I do!
That's it for this weeks post! I hope you enjoyed the stream of consciousness style writing, sometimes I think you just need to rant.
Let me know your opinions on social pressures? I'd love to know if someone has experienced similar problems at University. Also if any one has recommendations on Hotels or Restaurants in Central London, please comment below, I would love to hear them!!
